The monsoon depression over Uttar Pradesh has weakened to a low-pressure area. It is likely to diffuse further and may break up over the foothills of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh. In another 36-48 hours. Heavy rains are expected over the mountainous state of Uttarakhand and the foothills of Uttar Pradesh.

Whenever the weather system gets diffused and filled up over land, collateral activity increases. The spread and reach of the system increases. However, the intensity of weather reduces sharply. The cyclonic circulation of the weakened system is extending up to mid-tropospheric levels. This is likely to reduce in vertical extent and also become broader and less marked. The flattened system may shift across the foothills of Uttar Pradesh, along the borderline of Nepal. Due to the rugged mountainous terrain, the worn-out system can not be traced in the wind field but can be tracked by its manifestation as a cloud cluster in satellite imagery.

Heavy rains are likely over both the divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon, more so over the lower mountains and foothills of the state. The foothills of Uttar Pradesh will also have scattered heavy rains in the next 24 hours. The places at risk will include the followings: Dehradun, Pant Nagar, Kotdwara, Almora, Ramnagar, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Mukteshwar,  Kedarnath, Badrinath, Rudraprayag, Srinagar, Devprayag, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Hardoi, Sitapur.

Weather conditions will start improving over Uttar Pradesh after about 24-36 hours. Mountains keep responding and have a lag of 24 hours or even more at times. Heavy rains in the hills raise the danger level of landslides. Tourism and adventure activities should take a break in the mountains for the next 3 days.
