During the month of April, Bangalore weather remained exceptionally hot and dry. Rain gods continued to slash the name of Bangalore from their list. However, the month of May began on a rainy note. The city continued to receive on and off scattered rains during the first ten days of the month.

In fact, the city recorded a whopping 47 mm of rain resulting in comfortable weather conditions. Yesterday, scattered light thunderstorm along with rainfall activity was observed over the city during late afternoon/evening hours. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Bangalore recorded 1.8 mm of rain.

Now, on and off isolated thunderstorm activity will continue over the capital city of Karnataka. However, Bangaloreans can look forward to a rainy week ahead, which is likely to begin around May 17 and will continue until May 20.

These rains can be attributed to a low-pressure area which is developing in Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensify into a depression around May 17. Due to this system, good rains are likely to occur over many parts of South Interior Karnataka including Bangalore. During this period, sufficient moisture incursion is likely from the Bay of Bengal over the region.

These rains will result in a significant drop in the maximums over Bangalore. So much so that the city may record maximums in the late 20s as well.
