Depression over South Odisha to give heavy rain over many states

The well-marked low-pressure area over west Central Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression and is over South Odisha and adjoining areas. Heavy rainfall has already commenced over Odisha.

The depression is expected to move in West Northwest direction across South Odisha and Chhattisgarh and may weaken gradually. Whenever any weather system moves over land, the moisture feed depletes leading to the generation of the weather system.

During its journey, the depression will give heavy to very heavy rain over Gangetic West Bengal and over parts of Odisha. Moderate to heavy rains are also possible over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidharbha, Konkan and Goa and over parts of Gujarat.

The depression will gradually get weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area thereafter into a low pressure over Madhya Pradesh. This is a slow-moving weather system. Therefore, rain activities will persist over many parts of Madhya Pradesh, East Gujarat and Rajasthan during next 4 to 5 days. Its impact will be felt over west Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and parts of Haryana by September 15 or 16.

Normal date for the commencement of monsoon withdrawal from Western parts of Rajasthan is September 17. This weather system will delay the withdrawal of monsoon by 3 to 4 days.
