The deep depression over Odisha has moved west-northwest and is now positioned over North Chhattisgarh as a depression.  It is likely to move further west-northwest and weaken to a well-marked low-pressure area. The low-pressure area will move slowly and shift over Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring Uttar Paradesh by tomorrow. The weather system will keep meandering over this region, till this weekend. Heavy rains are likely, more focused on Madhya Pradesh and partly covering Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan.

The weather system is located very close and south of the sub-tropical ridge. The steering winds are moving the system to more northern latitudes and restricting its westward movement. Within the prevailing pattern, the low pressure will neither cross the ridge and nor move beyond Madhya Pradesh. The system will be nearly stagnant for about 3-4 days over Central and adjoining western parts of Madhya Pradesh. The stationary position of the system will result in heavy to very heavy rainfall over Madhya Pradesh from mid-week to the weekend.

Heavy rains will lash the eastern parts of the state in the next 48 hours and thereafter, target the central and western parts, simultaneously. During this week, the state of Madhya Pradesh needs to go on alert for possible deluge at many places. Very heavy rains may spell trouble and disrupt surface connectivity. There is a danger of low-lying areas getting waterlogged. So much so, that even standing crops will be vulnerable to incessant heavy rains, damaging quality and quantity of yield. The places at risk will include Umaria, Mandla, Panna, Jabalpur, Sagar, Bhopal, Harda, Vidisha, Khandwa, Dewas, Hoshangabad, Betul, Ahoknagar, Shivpuri and Guna.  The state is going to witness the longest wet spell of the season and therefore, needs to exercise utmost caution.
