Depression in Bay triggers 3 digit rainfall over Tamil Nadu

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the weather system in Bay of Bengal now concentrated as a depression has triggered torrential rains over several parts of Tamil Nadu.

Some places, particularly coastal areas, have recorded three-digit rainfall in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday.

As we progress further, we can expect more rains to pound the coastal areas of the Tamil Nadu. Especially, North Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai that is expected to witness heavy to extremely heavy rain and thundershowers during next 24 hours.

Other coastal areas along with the interior parts are also likely to record heavy to very heavy rains. The capital city of Chennai has already recorded 42 mm of rain in span of six hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

The depression is presently centered at Latitude 11°N and Longitude 81°E, around 240 km from South-southeast Chennai.

According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions are favourable for the further intensification of the system into a deep depression during next 48 hours. By this time, it will also shift closer to the coast.

The system also has potential to strengthen into the first possible cyclonic storm of the season.
