November 15, 2017 5:42 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The last 48 hours brought some light rains for Andhra Pradesh that has been whirling under dry days from last many days. These rains were due to the well-marked low-pressure area which was over west central Bay of Bengal. Some rains have already been occurring over Srikakulam that has recorded 48 mm of rains in a span of 9 hours.

It was all due to this weather system, that parts of Andhra Pradesh particularly the coastal stations of the state recorded some light to moderate spells in the last 24 hours. However, conversely, the intensity of rains over Rayalaseema was comparatively lower. Further, these rains are anticipated to continue over Andhra Pradesh for another 24 hours.

Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Tuesday, Kalingapatnam recorded 14 mm of rains, Vijayawada 8 mm, Visakhapatnam 6 mm, Rentachintala 5 mm, Kakinada 0.3 mm and Narsapur recorded light rains of 0.2 mm.

This system is likely to move in the north direction and will weaken after 24 hours. Thus, moderate with isolated heavy rain is likely to continue for the next 24 hours and will reduce thereafter. The districts such as Srikakulam and Vishakhapatnam may receive light rains while Rayalaseema and the districts over the south coastal area are expected to receive light spells only.

The rain intensity is likely to decrease after 24 hours from the north coastal stations of Andhra Pradesh while Rayalaseema will continue to receive on and off light rains for at least another 48 hours.
