Depression gives heavy rain in Bhubaneswar, Kalingapatnam, Kolkata, more in offing

The depression over west-central Bay of Bengal off the coast of Andhra Pradesh has given moderate to heavy rain at many places along the East coast. Particularly the coastal districts of Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh  have received heavy to very heavy rains, while scattered light to moderate rains occurred over Gangetic West Bengal.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Kalingapatnam witnessed heavy rain to the tune of 104.5 mm. In the same span of time, Paradip in Odisha recorded heavy rain of 77.2 mm, Chandbali 61.2 mm, Puri 79 mm, Gopalpur 50.4 mm, Balasore 33.8 mm, Bhubaneswar 31.7 mm and Cuttack 28. 6 mm of rain.

In West Bengal, Digha recorded 31.2 mm rain, Kolkata 24.2 mm, Midnapore 18.8 mm, Diamond Harbour 17.9 mm and Krishnanagar 14.2 mm of rain.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the depression is now gradually moving in north-northeast direction along the East coast.

It is anticipated that intensity of rains will reduce over coastal Andhra Pradesh but coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal will continue receiving moderate rains at many places with few heavy spells for another 24 hours. Thereafter, north coastal of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal will also witness scattered light to moderate rain.

As the depression will start weakening, rains will also start reducing over these areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are in lower 20s and hence weather during the day and night will be comfortable across all the states.
