The well-marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal has intensified further into a depression and is presently seen over west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast. According to Skymet Weather, the elongated sea travel fed enough moisture to the weather system to get more marked.
The system is centered at Latitude 15°N and Longitude 83°E, which is around 235 km southeast of Machilipatnam, 300 km south of Visakhapatnam and 530 km south-southwest of Gopalpur. With this, sea conditions have also become rough to very rough off and along the coast of Odisha, West Bengal and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Further, the depression will continue to track the East Coast while moving in north direction during the next 24 hours. Weathermen are of the view that the system will sustain its strength during this time. Thereafter, it will move northnortheastwards and weaken gradually due to the proximity of the coast.
Depression has already given some heavy rains over parts of Coastal Odisha since morning. Puri has recorded 40 mm of rain in span of six hours from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm on Wednesday. In same duration, Paradip saw 31 mm, Chandbali 28 mm, Gopalpur 25 mm, Bhubaneswar 24 mm and Balasore 10 mm.
In fact, Kolkata, the capital city of the neighbouring West Bengal has also seen 12 mm of rains during this time.

Further, weathermen are predicting moderate to heavy rains over several parts Coastal Odisha and West Bengal. Few places may record very heavy rains as well. Strong gusty winds along with thunderstorm and lightning may also occur over these places.
Mainly affected areas of Odisha would include Angul, Baragarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khordha and Puri.

Meanwhile, in West Bengal, places such as Bankura, Barddhaman, Birbhum, East Midnapore, Haora, Hugli, Kolkata, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Puruliya, South 24 Parganas and West Midnapore would also witness good rain activity during the next 48 hours.
Though the system has moved northwards but the peripherals of system will continue to give moderate showers over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh that includes Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam.
