Depression in Bay intensifies into Cyclone Nada
The weather system that has been brewing in the Bay of Bengal since past few days has finally intensified into a cyclone on Wednesday afternoon. The cyclone named Nada is this season’s active cyclonic storm which is likely to affect Indian coast and that is slated to give moderate to heavy rain in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in coming days.
Chennai is likely to receive good rains during next two days owing to this weather system that is moving steadily towards Tamil Nadu coast. The rain is expected to commence from Wednesday morning and weather in southern state will remain influenced till the weekend.
Deep depression in Bay to intensify into a cyclone soon
As predicted by Skymet Weather, the depression in Southeast Bay of Bengal has gain more strength and has now concentrated into a deep depression. The system is likely to intensify further and concentrate into cyclonic storm by Wednesday evening. If this happens it will be named as Cyclone ‘Nada’.
It is presently centered at 7.8°N and 85.7°E, about 820 km in east-southeast of Chennai, 770 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 490 km east-southeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
The system will continue to move in west-northwest direction towards the Tamil Nadu coast. In wake of the approaching system, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to commence over the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh by the evening of November 30.
Rains will pick up pace by December 1 and heavy to very heavy rains may lash several parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Andhra Pradesh till December 2.
Sea conditions have already become rough to very rough. Moreover, wind speed is also likely to pick up pace along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. During the next 24 to 48 hours, squally winds with the speed of 50-70 kmph gusting up to 80 kmph may be witnessed over the region.
Depression forms in Bay of Bengal, Cyclone may follow soon

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the well-marked low pressure area in southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression.
The system is presently centered at 6.5°N and 87.5°E, about 1000 km in east-southeast of Chennai, 990 km eastsoutheast of Puducherry and 720 km eastsoutheast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka
The depression is expected strengthen further into a deep depression during the next 24 hours. Looking at the cloud configuration, weathermen are also predicting that the system may also concentrate into a cyclonic storm in subsequent 24 hours. However, we have to wait and watch till that time.
At present, the system will continue to move west-northwestwards, closer to the Tamil Nadu coast. Weathermen predict that the system is most likely to cross the coast somewhere between Vedaranniyam and Chennai by the early morning hours of December 2.
In wake of the approaching system, we can expect fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu including Chennai and South Andhra Pradesh.
Sky has already become cloudy over Tamil Nadu and we can expect light rain to commence by Wednesday evening.
Sea conditions have also become rough off and along the coast and fishermen are advised from venturing out in the sea.
It has been a while that any significant weather system has developed in Bay of Bengal. Now a potential weather system has developed in southeast Bay of Bengal.
It is presently seen as a well-marked low pressure area, which is likely to intensify into a depression any time soon. However, we are afraid that the system may not strengthen further.
According to Skymet Weather, it is a fast moving system, therefore time of travel over the sea will be less that will reduce the chances of its intensification.
However, system has full potential to give moderate rain and thundershowers at many places of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on December 1 and 2. Coastal parts of Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh may record some isolated heavy showers. Fishermen are also advised to be cautious while venturing out in the sea during this time period.
Weathermen predict that light rain and thundershowers will commence from November 30 over the Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
Thereafter, the system will cross the coast, moving in west-northwest direction. December 1 onwards, light to moderate rains will cover most parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
The system will continue to move westwards and by December 3, we can expect rain and thundershowers over South Interior Karnataka and Kerala as well.
The approaching system is likely to revive the Northeast Monsoon which has remained subdued for very long time now. This will mark an end to the prolonged dry spell over Peninsular India including Chennai.
Entire region has been highly rain deficit with deficiency ranging between 60%-90%. Though upcoming spell of rain may drop the deficiency by few percent but drought light conditions will still persist.
