Depression becomes deep depression, rains to be heavy over Central and East India

Yesterday, a low pressure had formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal which further intensified into a well-marked low pressure area last night. Moreover, the system intensified into a depression today. In fact, just about a few hours ago, the system even intensified into a deep depression.

The system is currently near Latitude 21.8 N and Longitude 87.9 E about 20 km southeast of Digha. Against the odds of being very close to the coast, the system did undergo several intensifications. However, the system is expected to be a short lived one with a life span of about two to three days.

The system is expected to track west northwest across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. In fact, the peripherals of this system are also expected to result in rains over parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar along with Vidarbha. East Rajasthan will also see some rainfall activity.

Odisha has already seen the worst of it with mammoth rains in the last 24 hours. Moreover, heavy showers are expected to persist for another 24 hours. The system is expected to weaken in the next 24 hours and move inland.

In fact, the state of Madhya Pradesh is also expected to witness a few heavy spells of rains in the next 24 to 48 hours. Rainfall activity is expected to weaken further.
