Dense to very dense fog observed in parts of North India

WP_20141205_003-1 CroppedDense to very dense fog has begun to disrupt normal life in parts of North India. The Palam observatory in Delhi today observed very dense fog with nil visibility. Though, fog in Delhi was not widespread, Dwarka and Vikaspuri also witnessed dense fog.

In view of very dense fog, arrival of several flights at the Palam airport got delayed. Till 7.30 am about 10 flights were delayed. Train services were also disrupted with Mahabodhi express running late by 7 hours. Other trains – coming to Delhi - that have been delayed are Purushottam Express, Punjab Mail and Malwa express.

Meanwhile, Amritsar in Punjab also observed very dense fog with visibility dropping to nil. Some other places to observe dense to shallow fog are Bhopal, where visibility dropped to 100 meters, Indore 50 meters, Gaya 400 meters, Varanasi 600 meters, Lucknow 600 meters and Gorakpur 800 meters.

Parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that were earlier witnessing dense fog are not witnessing fog anymore. Fog has also reduced over Madhya Pradesh.

Fog in India is not widespread at the moment and is only confined to some areas. However, in next 24-48 hours it is expected to become widespread.
