As on Sunday morning, very dense fog was observed over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Lower Assam. In the same way, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and North Rajasthan too witnessed fog of moderate intensity.
The lowest visibility was recorded at Hisar, Bahraich, Sultanpur and Varanasi, wherein it dropped to less than 25 meters. Likewise, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Agartala and Kailashahar saw visibility less than 50 meters.

Viisbilty at Delhi (Palam), Bikaner, Imphal and Bhagalpur was less than 200 meters; while Sri Ganganagar, Delhi (Safdarjung), Patna, Gaya, Malda and Silchar saw lowest visibility at less than 500 meters.
The reason for the occurrence of fog over eastern regions of the country could be attributed to an upper air trough that runs along the foothills of Himalayas in the lower levels over Northeast Uttar Pradesh, North Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
Weathermen predict very dense fog to continue its grip over the region for the next two to three days. Further, days will remain cold with maximum temperatures settling around 12-14°C. On the other hand, night temperatures will be seen ranging around 5-7°C.
Moving to the cause of foggy mornings over Northeast India, an induced cyclonic circulation is prevailing over Upper Assam and adjoining East Bangladesh. In the wake of this weather system, light rains occurred at some places over Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining Assam.
This weather system is most likely to move east-northeastwards during the next 24 hours. Hence, moderate to dense fog will endure over northeastern states.
Coming to the reason of fog conditions in Northwest India, dense to very dense fog was observed over the entire chunk. However, these conditions are expected to subside in the coming days.
The northwesterly winds have picked up pace, in consequence to this these winds are not allowing the fog to settle for long. Hence shallow to moderate fog is possible during the early morning hours over the region and will lift up soon.
