As reiterated by Skymet Weather, dense fog has tightened its grip over parts of East India, especially East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Both Allahabad and Gorakhpur reported very dense fog with visibility dropping to nil for the second consecutive day.
This was followed by Patna, Gaya and Agartala which also witnessed dense fog with the lowest visibility of 100 meters.
Varanasi also reported low visibility of 150 meters, while Lucknow had shallow fog with visibility of 600 meters.
In wake of this, around 45 trains have been running behind the schedule.
According to Skymet Weather, two cyclonic circulations are marked over Bihar and adjoining areas and South Bangladesh and adjoining Bay of Bengal. Both the systems have been infusing moisture over East and Northeast India. As a result, humid and warm easterly winds have been blowing over the region.
Moreover, persistent fog cover has not let the minimum temperature rise over the region and wind speed is also very light. All these factors are conducive for the formation of the fog.
Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over the region in the coming days. This may also lead to cold day conditions over some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Down south, Bangalore also recorded very dense fog as visibility dropped to mere 50 meters. The city usually records foggy mornings due to its geographical features and other localised factors.
Meanwhile, fog continues to abate northern plains barring few pockets. Delhi NCR remained fog free on Thursday morning with fair visibility conditions.
However, we expect fog to make comeback soon over the northern plains during the next 24 hours.
