Dense fog returns to North India, spares East India

Dense fog returns to North IndiaAfter showing some improvement for last two days, fog made a come back across North India on Sunday morning. However, dense fog was confined to only few pockets of North India, while it was shallow at large.

Fog in North India

Delhi woke up to a foggy morning on Sunday, as nil visibility was reported at the Palam Airport in the wee hours of morning that improved to 100 meters around 6:30 am. While other places in the city and NCR such as Dwarka, Indirapuram and Noida Expressway witnessed shallow fog.

Lucknow in central Uttar Pradesh reported very dense fog with visibility dropping to nil, followed by Amritsar at 50 meters only.

Fog in East India

East continues to show improvement in fog, as only shallow fog was reported from the region barring few locations. Both Gaya and Varanasi reported shallow fog with lowest visibility dropping to 600 meters, while Patna had fairly good visibility conditions at 1000 meters. However, Agartala witnessed  dense fog at 200 meters.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, moderate strong winds are blowing over the region, which has led to reduction in fog.

Flight and train delays

The situation for flights and trains, especially North and East India bound, remains grim. 10 flights were reported to be cancelled at Delhi airport, while 11 flights were delayed, including eight departing flights and three arrivals.

Over 98 trains are reported to be running behind the schedule across the country. Some of the important trains having major delays are Shridham Superfast Express(New Delhi to Jabalpur) running late by 17 hours, Duronto Express ( Hazrat Nizamuddin to Secunderabad) by 16 hours, Shaheed Express Mail (Amritsar to Jaynagar) by 23 hours, Chattisgarh Express (Amritsar to Bilaspur) by 15 hours, and Jammu-Guwahati Express by 10 hours.
