Delhi fog

During the last 24 hours, moderate to dense fog was observed over many parts of Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan.

Places such as Sri Ganganagar, Patiala and Ambala witnessed poor visibility which was less than 500 meters. Ludhiana, Hisar, and Jalandhar also witnessed low visibility. This led to slight disturbance in road traffic.

Fog is been witnessed over these aforementioned regions since past few days. The reason for the occurrence of fog can be attributed to the flow of light winds and low temperatures across the region.

At present, the minimums over these mentioned regions have been settling near 12-15 degrees. Moreover, the sky condition is also clear.

According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, with clear sky, the earth surface cools down rapidly and the air near the earth surface gets condensed with the formation of fog. As winds are light in nature, thus the layer of fog is likely to persist over the places.

Usually, the thick layer of fog continues over northwest plains of India from the month of November up to January. Sometimes the stretch is up to February.

With increased frequency of Western Disturbances over lower latitudes, the humidity levels also rise, leading to the development of fog across the region.
