Dense fog likely over northeastern states in few days

Throughout Southwest Monsoon, most of northeastern states have remained rain deficient. Likewise, Northeast Monsoon has not affected much of these states till now.

Some rains have been recorded in past few days such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland recorded normal rains, while Tripura received above average rainfall.

These rains can be attributed to the Cyclone Kyant as well as the depression which followed the cyclone.

Northeast India is considered to be the rainiest region, along with the West Coast including Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. However this year, these states failed to record measurable rainfall as it usually does.

Now that winters have begun, and with winters the arrival of fog is just so expected.

Many areas of Northeast India usually see dense fog during the months of November and December. The fog formation is mainly due to the close proximity of these areas to the Brahmaputra basin. But, till now only shallow fog has been witnessed in the states.

As per Skymet Weather, the northerly-northeasterlies are currently prevailing over most of Northeast India. These winds are cool and dry in nature. Therefore the formation of fog over the area is expected, which could be dense to very dense in nature in the coming days. Also, temperatures are expected to drop further.
