Weather of India has always been notorious and this can be made out of the fact that despite the December month just about to end and New Year approaching, the wintry chill in the northern part of the country has not been felt yet.
Till now, winters have remained mild over Delhi and its surrounding regions though temperatures have dropped below 7 degrees in the national capital, yet, the chilly weather has remained absent. Initial days of the month did bring in some foggy conditions in the capital of the country and its adjoining regions, but the weather became clear and sunny by mid-December.
As of now, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over Delhi and NCR and hence, any significant fall in temperatures are not expected. In the wake of this weather system, the direction of winds are also likely to change from easterly to south-easterly.
However, this will lead to a marginal increase in minimum temperatures paving way for dense foggy conditions over Delhi and NCR. Fog is expected to increase by the night of December 31 or morning of January 1.
Hence it can be said that people in the national capital and surrounding regions are likely to wake up to welcome a foggy New Year.
Though minimum temperatures are predicted to rise but due to persistent foggy conditions, maximum temperatures are not expected to upsurge much. As a result, the diurnal variation between the minimum and maximum temperature will be comparatively less leading to cold day like conditions.
Until now, all the Western Disturbances which have affected the Western Himalayas were unable to give heavy snowfall in the hilly areas of the country. Due to this, the icy cold winds have not reached over the northern plains including Delhi and severe winter chill yet remained unfelt.
