Srinagar Fog continues to prevail, flights remain suspended
Foggy weather has refused to take a backseat from Srinagar and continues to wreak havoc over many parts of the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. Flight services were the ones that suffered the most and remained suspended on Tuesday.
Flights have been affected for the sixth consecutive day and not even a single flight was able to operate today as well. The visibility remained poor which is why the authorities decided to keep the services suspended on Tuesday also.
The visibility remained at a mere 800 metres against 1300 metres which is required for both takeoff and landing of the flights. The first day when bad weather in terms of fog affected airlines was last week on Thursday. Since then, there hasn’t been a single day when all flights have been able to take off or land.
The conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours. However, there may be some improvement on Thursday as some rainfall is expected over the city.
Dense fog in Srinagar has wreaked havoc over the city. The one to bear the entire brunt has been flight services. For the second consecutive day, all flights from and to Srinagar have been canceled. Poor visibility had caused the flight services to remain suspended on Sunday as well.
If an improvement in foggy conditions are seen, services are expected to resume. As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, the prevailing Western Disturbance is expected to bring rain and snow in the higher reaches of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Whenever a Western Disturbance approaches the Western Himalayas, winds die down which results in an increase in haziness and fog makes an appearance over many parts of the hilly state of North India. As the weather system is expected to move away thus conditions will witness some improvement during the next 24 hours.
However, the improvement will be short lived as another system is approaching the Western Himalayas around November 23. During that time, foggy conditions will once again make a comeback resulting in some inconvenience to the residents of Srinagar.
The weather conditions are expected to clear up around November 27 completely. During that time, both minimum and maximum temperatures will witness a fall.
