Dense fog in Rajasthan kills 1; 50 vehicles pileup near Jaipur

The Jaipur-Agra highway near Kanota, saw a massive vehicle pileup that left 50 injured and 1 dead. The accident happened due to low visibility crediting the fog show up over the region. Around 50 vehicles piled up on the highway. Five of the injured are reported to be in very serious condition.

The fog reduced visibility in many areas of the state to 0 meters. Visibility of 50m and below was also recorded over many regions of Haryana and Rajasthan like Ambala, Churu and Hisar. The show of fog is a result of moisture content in the air settling near ground. After the light rainfall over the northwest plains on January 26, the warm air replaced by the incoming cool air from northwest direction led to the fog show up. This incoming cool winds hints the approach of another fresh western disturbance.

"Two people have been killed while 5 others are serious. The total number of injured is nearly 36," Kunwar Rastradeep, DCP (East) said. The accident took place in the early hours due to dense fog. "Many injured have their eyes damaged or have sustained multiple fractures," the police official said.
