Dense fog in Gorakhpur, Agra, winter chill intensifies in Uttar Pradesh, schools shut in parts

It seems like intense winter chill has made a comeback over the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh as minimum temperatures have dropped down significantly wherein Lucknow, Gorakhpur and other adjoining areas are seeing these temperatures in the range of 5 to 6 degrees Celsius resulting in severe cold wave conditions.

Day temperatures have also dropped here due to moderate and shallow fog in these areas. Intense fog has been also seen in isolated pockets. Currently, icy cold winds are blowing from the northwest reducing the feel like temperatures and increasing winter chill to quite an extent.

Not only this, foggy conditions have been seen in many parts of Uttar Pradesh at 5:30 am with visibility dropping to 25 metres in Gorakhpur and Agra, and 50 metres in Jhansi, Varanasi along with 200 metres visibility at Bareilly and Bahraich.

Thus, schools and colleges have also been closed today and tomorrow in parts of Baghpat, Sitapur and Bulandshahr. However, schools in Lucknow will open as per schedule. Moreover, scattered light rains have been seen over southeast and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, particularly Varanasi recorded light rains. Now also, isolated light rains may be seen over southeastern parts of the state in the next 24 hours.

Temperatures, particularly the minimums are expected to drop down further by another two to three degrees. Moderate to dense fog will continue over many parts of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the eastern parts.
