Dense fog in East UP and Bihar, mostly clear conditions in North IndiaYesterday, plains of North India observed very dense fog. Palam Airport observed zero visibility during the morning hours resulting in the delay of about 40 flights. Other areas including the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow where the visibility dropped to 50 metres. Most parts of the Indo-Gangetic plains extending up to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Bihar observed dense to very dense fog.

However, fog has relented from most parts of the plains of North India. Only misty conditions with shallow fog in a few areas has been observed. While the visibility at the Delhi Airport dropped to 200 metres for a while during the early morning hours, it did not cause any interruptions. Also, the weather cleared up quite rapidly.

However, areas of East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar continued to observe dense to very dense fog right from midnight to the early morning hours. Gorakhpur observed zero visibility while Gaya and Patna recorded 50 m and 100 m visibility, respectively.

Surprisingly, the visibility in Bangalore dropped to 100 m for around an hour during the early hours.  On the other hand, most areas of North India recorded good visibility. Jaipur recorded 2000 m visibility, followed by Amritsar and Dehradun at 1500 m (each), Chandigarh and Lucknow 1000 m (each), and Agra 800 m.

During the next 24 hours, North India will continue to experience clear conditions but cold winds will result in a further drop in temperatures. On the other hand, East India will observe foggy mornings with reduced visibility.
