Dense fog engulfs East India, spares North India due to Western Disturbance

Fog in IndiaNorth India witnessed fairly good visibility conditions on Wednesday morning, with most parts reporting either no fog or shallow fog. However, East India continues to reel under very dense fog, which is affecting normal life.

Fog in North India

Delhites woke up to a fog free weather Wednesday morning as the visibility at the Palam Airport was 1000 meters. While Amritsar reported shallow fog at 500 meters, followed by Agra at 600 meters and Chandigarh at 800 meters.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Western Disturbance that is presently affecting North India, has led to change in winds and caused clouding in entire region resulting in abatement of fog.

Meanwhile, Lucknow in Central Uttar Pradesh was among the very few pockets to have observed very dense fog, with visibility dropping to 50 meters. Jammu also reported dense fog at 200 meters.

Fog in East India

Varanasi, Allahabad and Gorakhpur in east Uttar Pradesh along with Gaya in Bihar reported nil  visibility.  This was followed by Agartala at 50 meters, Patna 100 meters and Guwahati 150 meters.

Flight and train delays

The plethora of flight and train delays continue to haunt passengers. Over 36 flights, including 20 departures and 16 arrivals, were cancelled and 21 were delayed at Delhi airport. Guwahati, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Patna and Varanasi airport also reported major delays.

Situation of trains, especially North and East bound trains, remained grim as around 120 trains were reported to be running behind schedule. Some of the major trains that are late are Northeast Express (Anand Vihar-Guwahati), which is running late by 12 hours, Chambal Express (Gwalior-Howrah) by 10 hours and Shridham Express (New Delhi-Jabalpur) by 20 hours.
