Dense fog engulfs Delhi, Amritsar, Varanasi and Gorakhpur

After witnessing clear weather conditions from past few days, finally, it seemed that the winter chill had arrived over North India including Delhi and NCR.

The saga of dense fog still endured over most parts of the north India particularly including Uttar Pradesh, parts of Punjab and Haryana.

Most of the regions witnessed visibility even below the 50 meter- mark. Amritsar, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur all three observed dense fog with the visibility dropping to 0 meters. Moreover. Delhi Palam airport also observed nil visibility.

In fact, Goa witnessed the visibility at 400 meters, Lucknow’s visibility dropped at 200 meters while Andhra Pradesh observed 600 meters of visibility.

Dense fog has also affected the rail and air traffic. Altogether eight flights were reported to have been delayed due to dense fog while two were canceled. Track the flight status here

The cyclonic circulation which was seen over Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan bought moderately to shallow fog over the region. The strong winds over the northwestern pains have reduced the fog intensity to limit to isolated areas only.

However, as of now, as the Western Disturbance which was over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh is expected to move away. Moreover, the northwesterly winds may also become moderate thereby reducing the intensity of fog.

This will also lead to the decrease in temperatures and minimum temperatures will also start curtailing down. Though the maximum temperatures which were below normal will rise considerably.

In a nutshell, it can be said that the foggy weather which has been prevailing over the northern plains of the country will reduce in another 24 hours paving way for clear weather conditions.
