Dense fog continues to engulf Amritsar, Gorakhpur, Lucknow

January 19, 2017 7:50 AM |

India fogDespite fog abating Indo-Gangetic plains, few parts of the region are still reeling under dense to very dense fog. For the third consecutive day on Thursday, places like Amritsar, Gorakhpur, and Lucknow continued to report very low visibility of zero and 100 meters, respectively.

In Delhi, Palam Observatory witnessed very dense fog with the visibility dropping to zero around 6 am. However, rest of the areas remained fog free with fairly good visibility conditions.

Some of the places in East India too observed shallow to moderate fog with Gaya reporting visibility of 500 meters, Varanasi 600 meters and Allahabad 800 meters.

Meanwhile, rest parts of northwestern plains and East India witnessed clear mornings. All thanks to the moderate dry and cold northwesterly winds blowing across the region.

These winds that have also reduced humidity significantly have kept the fog at bay from the region. According to Skymet Weather, similar weather conditions are likely to continue for at least for another 24 hours.

Thereafter, as these winds will die down, we can expect fog to come back over most parts of the plains. Moreover, another Western Disturbance will also change the wind pattern to relatively warmer and humid easterly winds. This will increase the level of moisture in the atmosphere and all these factors combined together will led to the formation of fog.
