Madhya Pradesh has been witnessing extremely heavy Monsoon rain and thundershowers for the last few days attributed to a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area which moved towards the state from the Bay of Bengal.
The first week of July has been the rainiest for the state of Madhya Pradesh so far. Three-digit rains have been observed in the state during this period. As of now, rain in West Madhya Pradesh is surplus by 49% while East Madhya Pradesh is deficient by a marginal 2%.
In the past 24 hours, Jabalpur and Khandwa recorded 62.1 mm and 16 mm of rain, respectively.
East Madhya Pradesh records more Monsoon rains in comparison to West Madhya Pradesh. However, in June West Madhya Pradesh recorded 78.8 mm of rains while East Madhya Pradesh saw 59.5 mm of rainfall. A similar trend is seen in July as well wherein till date West Madhya Pradesh has recorded 175.2 mm of rains against the monthly normal of 291.6. While East Madhya Pradesh has witnessed 161.2 mm of rains against the July normal of 347.8 mm.
Now, the north, northwestern and eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh will see moderate rains with few heavy spells in places like Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, Sagar, Satna, Rewa, Jabalpur, and Umaria during the next 24 hours. The intensity of rain is likely to take a dip tomorrow and from July 11 onward, rains will abate.
Another fresh spell can be expected only during the time of the revival of Monsoon. As of now, we can say that post 48 hours, there will be a break from rainfall activity and the state of Madhya Pradesh will be nearly dry for a week.

Spells of moderate to heavy rain and thundershower at many places with lightning strike at some places will continue over Anuppur, Ashoknagar, Balaghat, Betul, Bhind, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Datia, Dindori, Gwalior, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Morena, Narsimhapur, Panna, Raisen, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sehore, Seoni, Shahdol, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, Umaria and Vidisha during next 18-24 hours.
