Delhi starts witnessing the wintry touch November onwards. However, for the month of November the winters are confined to late evenings and nights only. For the month of December, both day and night start experiencing the cold weather. Adding to this, January is the coldest month. But this year, winters have shown varied characteristics.
The average temperature for the month of November is 12.9°C, December is 8.3°C and for January it is the lowest with 7.6°C. For the year 2018, the average temperature for the month of November was 13.4°C and this has been the highest recorded average temperature since 2013 except, 2015. In the year 2015, the average temperature was 14.6°C whereas for the year 2012, the average temperature was 12.2°C.
So far, December has observed single digit minimums except three days. In the past one week, the minimums have gone down to 5°C and even below that.
The average temperature for the month of December so far has been 7.1°C against the normal of 8.3°C. A degree below normal is considered to be a significant drop. In the coming days as well, the same trend will continue and as per experts, the minimums will remain below 5°C.
Presently, icy cold winds are adding to the winter chill in Delhi. The last 24 hours saw a significant decline in morning temperatures wherein Safdarjung Observatory has recorded the season’s lowest at 2.6°C. This cold wave condition is expected to continue for the next 24 hours as well.
Pollution levels remained poor today. A marginal improvement is at chance tomorrow, but it will not be a significant one, thus pollution will still continue to remain on a lighter side. This slight improvement can be attributed to the strengthening of winds blowing over Delhi area. However, after 24 hours, pollution will once again grip almost all of Delhi, yet again.
