Delhi woke up to a rainy morning, more rains likely

Rain and thundershower activities associated with dust storms are going on over Delhi and NCR for the last few days. The maximum temperature which was around 44 degrees until May 23rd has also dropped significantly and hovering in the mid-thirties.

Today on May 27, widespread rain and thundershower activities have occurred over Delhi and NCR. The base observatory of Delhi that is Safdarjung has recorded 16 mm of rain, Palam recorded 19 mm, Jafarpur recorded 31 mm, Ayanagar 20 mm, Delhi University 27.5, and Delhi Ridge recorded 33 mm of rain. The minimum temperature of Delhi dropped to 19.3 degrees which is below normal by 7 degrees.

A cyclonic circulation is over Punjab and Haryana and the trough is extending up to sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Humid winds from the Arabian Sea are feeding moisture to Northwest India and an active Western disturbance is moving across Western Himalayas. these weather parameters are responsible for rain activities.

We expect rain and thundershower associated with continuing until the end of the month keeping the temperature below normal. We do not expect heat wave to make a comeback until the first week of June.
