It may seem like the return of winter as people have been forced to take out their woolens and are waking upto foggy mornings but it is just few of the rare days.
Delhiites woke up to an unusual foggy Tuesday morning, with visibility dropping to mere 50 meters around 7:30 am. Though it did not have major impact on rail and air traffic but minor delays were still reported.
Fog during March is a very rare phenomena, as weather conditions are not conducive for it. But the exceptional heavy rain during the last 48 hours in Delhi resulted in favourable conditions for fog to settle in.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, prolonged spell of rains over the city resulted in increased moisture levels along with low temperatures and nil winds led to dense fog. However, ground visibility conditions improved sharply thereafter.
The Western Disturbance coupled with induced cyclonic circulation, which have been giving weather over the northwest India, has now cleared away and Delhi is presently in changeover period, where winds are being replaced from easterlies to north-westerlies.
Moreover, temperatures were also settling on the lower side, which did not let the moisture to disperse. On Monday, city recorded minimum temperature at 12.8°C, while the maximum temperature settled at 22°C.
Delhi will observe partly cloudy sky today, with sunshine expected during afternoon. This will result in increase in temperatures, making it a bright sunny Tuesday.
