Fog has finally made its appearance over Delhi-NCR for the first time in the season. Delhiites woke up to a dense layer of fog on Wednesday morning, reducing visibility across the city.

Palam reported thick fog, with the visibility dropping to 100 meters between 6 am to 7 am. R K Puram, Saket, AIIMS, Dhaula Kuan, Noida and Faridabad too reported similar visibility conditions.

Even though fog began to disappear around 10 am from several parts it affected the flights from IGI airport. Several flights were delayed or diverted from the airport due to thick layer of fog during early morning hours.

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, minimum temperatures over the national capital has already dropped. Moreover, passage of Western Disturbance and a depression in Bay of Bengal have changed the wind pattern to easterly, which has increased the levels of humidity.

Besides this, the wind speed that was earlier ranging between 20 kmph - 30 kmph has also reduced drastically and at present, these winds are light to very light.

All these factors – low minimum temperatures, increased moisture and calm winds make the situation favourable for the formation of the fog over the entire northern plains including Delhi-NCR.

Weathermen predict foggy mornings to persist over the national capital for at least next two days.

Thereafter, the affecting Western Disturbance will clear away the region and the weather system in Bay of Bengal will also weaken. With this, wind pattern will again change into cool and dry northwesterlies and wind speed will also pick up. But till then, thick to dense will continue to engulf the region.
