Fog at Airport 1

Fog has finally appeared in full swing over Delhi-NCR, as the national capital recorded very dense fog on Monday morning.

Visibility at Palam had dropped to nil during the wee hours and remained so till the early morning hours. This is for the first time in the season that dense to very dense fog was reported all across the city and nearby areas of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. In the wake of this, several flights to and from Delhi were canceled or delayed by a few hours, leaving several passengers stranded at the airport.

Not only this, dense fog has engulfed the entire northwestern plains. In wake of this, several flights are delayed or canceled. Trains are also running behind the schedule.

According to Skymet Weather, even though the sun had come up but with winds being light to very light in nature, clearance would take time today.

Till now, Delhi had only been recording shallow fog with dense fog on few occasions that too only over isolated places.

At present, all the factors which are required for the formation of fog are prevalent over the city. Winds are light, minimum temperatures are low and humidity levels are high. Delhi recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season on Monday with 5.7°C.

The situation will remain conducive for dense to very dense fog during the next 24 hours as well.

In fact, this dense fog envelope would be responsible for a drop in the maximum temperatures over Delhi-NCR. This would eventually set the winter chill over the region that had been missing so far.
