The Safdarjung Observatory of Delhi, a representative for the city, recorded a minimum of 11.7 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees below normal.

A minimum of 11.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday is the lowest in the month of April in the 12 years. The all-time record for minimum temperature for Delhi is 10.7 degrees, recorded on April 02 in 1965.

The last 10 days of March have witnessed good rain and thundershower activities across Western Himalayas and snowfall over riches. Some places in Northwest India also witnessed scattered rain during that time due to successive Western Disturbances. Winds travelling from Western Himalayas are relatively cooler in nature. Cool and dry winds from the north led to a sharp dip in the minimum temperature in Delhi. The skies over Delhi have remained mostly clear during the last few days, while strong winds have reduced pollution levels. It allowed the infrared radiation to escape back to space.

There will be a gradual increase in day and night temperatures in the coming days, but we do not expect heatwave conditions to come back anytime soon. Day temperatures in Delhi may reach up to 38 degrees next 2 to 3 days.
