The air pollution situation is turning grim in Delhi and its adjoining areas. As per, the overall AQI calculated today for Delhi at 10 am is 355. Light winds are continuing to blow over Delhi-NCR during day time. Whereas, in late evening and night, winds turn calm.

Due to low temperature and light winds, pollution levels are still very high over Delhi-NCR. As per Skymet, a Western Disturbance is approaching western range of Himalayas and will start with its affect by tomorrow. Then the winds over Delhi would also change their direction from December 9-11 and relatively humid east and southeasterly winds are expected to blow over the region. These humid winds will act as a trigger for the formation of shallow fog over Delhi thus leading to increase in pollution levels over the city. It is expected that pollution may reach from very poor to severe at many places. By December 12, winds will once again change their direction and will start blowing from north/northwest direction.

As per the experts, fresh snowfall over hills will cool down these northerly winds. Thus, day and night temperatures of Delhi-NCR may dip from December 12 onward leading to winter chill. Minimums will continue to fall, although the fall will be gradual but by December 15 or 16, we can expect winters to set in fully over Delhi and adjoining areas.
