Winter rains finally made their way to Delhi-NCR, which have been battling prolonged dry spell. Although rains were patchy and light in nature, but constant clouding was able to reduce day maximums.

Wednesday saw cold day, with maximum temperature settling at 22°C, which was two degrees below the normal average temperature.

These fresh rains could be attributed to Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir that had induced a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab and Haryana. The prevailing systems have now weakened and moving away from the region.

However, remnants of the systems might give some short spells of rains over few pockets of Delhi-NCR by late Wednesday night. Thereafter, rains would now also bid adieu to Delhi-NCR along with other parts of northwestern plains.

With this, warm and humid easterly winds would now be replaced by cool and dry northwesterly winds. Since these winds would be blowing directly from snow capped Himalayas, they would be quite chilly i.e. cold enough to drop the mercury.

The drop in night temperatures would be more over as compared to day temperatures. As per weathermen, coming days would be comfortably cold on account of bright sunshine but nights would be chilly as temperatures would settle in single digit around 7°C -8°C.
