2019 made a thumping start in Delhi , with January being coldest since 2011. The average minimum temperatures recorded for the month this year stands at 6.89°C.
Not only this, Winters 2019 have also defied El Nino conditions. According to Skymet Weather, winters during El Nino years tend to be warmer than average, with a little more precipitation. Although, Delhi rains have been more than average, but winters are not being milder than the normal. In fact, it has been the coldest one.
The rains over the hills and plains of North have been above normal. At present, national territory Delhi is rain surplus by 55 mm against the normal of 19.3 mm of rains. This time it has broken the rainfall record for last decade or so.
There has been a prolonged spell of Cold Wave conditions this time in Delhi with the lowest minimum in January recorded at 4°C January 1, 2019. More than half of the month of January has been hovering on a low single digit number somewhere between 4°C-6°C.
The monthly average temperature for January is 7.6°C and as on January 31, the average minimum temperature for Delhi is at 6.9°C which is 0.7°C below the normal and it is quite phenomenal.
Similar Weather to follow in February
This time, the winters in Delhi and NCR knocked the doors little late, somehwere around second half of December. Thus, it is predicted that the month of February might also witness rains and Cold Wave conditions, which means February would be facing similar weather conditions as it has been in January.
As per Skymet Weather, there is a possibility that in the first week of February, i.e. from February 4-6, 2019, rains can drench the national territory Delhi and its neighboring states. Thus, Cold Day conditions can be witnessed then. As per the records, the month of February records more rain in comparison to January. The monthly average rainfall for January and February is 19.3 mm and 22.1 mm, respectively.
