Delhi will have to wait for monsoon arrival

India Meteorological Department has predicted the arrival of monsoon over the national capital Delhi by June 15. But conditions are not conducive for monsoon arrival over Delhi, yet. The low-pressure area which developed over the Bay of Bengal and traveled up to northwest Jharkhand has enhanced the rain activities over the eastern and central part of the country pushing the monsoon to these areas much before time. The low-pressure area will now get weaken and monsoon surges will also deplete.

Moderate to heavy rain may continue over east and Central India, particularly over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh during the next 4 to 5 days. Rains will be scattered and patchy over Northwest India such as west Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab for at least the next 48 hours. Thereafter, rain may become isolated. We do not expect the onset of monsoon over Delhi and adjoining areas any time soon. If monsoon is declared over Delhi, it may not be a typical onset of monsoon. We might see patchy rainfall instead of a continuous downpour.
