Delhi Weather: Chilly nights, comfortable days and improvement in pollution ahead

January 5, 2018 3:15 PM |

Winters in IndiaDelhi winters have been at their peak since the new year began. Right from foggy mornings to cold days as well as chilly nights, Delhiites have seen it all in the past few days.

Moreover, yesterday both the Palam and Safdarjung observatories recorded the lowest minimums of the season. However, today, temperatures in Delhi and the NCR region have increased marginally. Dense fog persisted over many parts of Delhi and NCR early morning as well, but depth of the fog is decreasing day by day which is why it has been lifting early now.

Along with this, day temperatures are also on the rise. On January 2, it settled at 17.7 degrees which increased to 20.3 degrees on January 4. Now, the duration of sunshine will also increase as the intensity of fog is expected to see a drop.

Therefore, maximum temperatures will increase further, and day will become comfortable with maximums being in the lower 20s. Meanwhile, minimums will remain in the range of 6 to 8 degrees. Thus, after the morning chill, days will remain comfortable for Delhiites.

Intensity of fog will decrease gradually, and duration will also see a drop. Pollution levels which were in severe zone have already decreased to some extent. Now, we expect that pollution levels will improve further due to commencement of dry northwesterly winds.

By January 9, moderate winds from northwest are expected to blow over the region which will lead to increase in visibility and improvement in the pollution levels even further.
