As predicted by Skymet Weather, Delhi-NCR witnessed a rainy Wednesday morning. Light to very light rain was recorded over several pockets of the national capital during the early morning hours.
Delhi will continue to witness partly-cloudy weather conditions on January 13. This day also marks the festival of Lohri. However, rain does not pose any threat to the Lohri celebrations, as weather will clear out by evening.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the weather activity can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation marked over Punjab and adjoining areas.
Moist south-westerly winds are already blowing over the city and rainy spell has further increased the levels of humidity in the atmosphere.
With this, a rise in fog intensity over Delhi is expected. Most parts of the city are likely to witness moderate fog on Thursday morning, with dense fog at isolated pockets.
Also, the temperatures that were settling above normal by at least five degrees in the wake of the clouding over the city will now take a dip by 3-4 degrees.
On Tuesday, Delhi recorded maximum temperature of 25.1°C, five degrees above normal. Minimum temperature was also five degrees above normal at 12°C.
However, according to Skymet Weather, these rains or drop in mercury will not be able to bring back the missing wintry chill over Delhi.
No significant weather system has approached the hilly region of North India so far. Western Disturbance, which is primarily responsible for bringing winters over northwestern plains, has been on back foot this year.
Though, frequency of Western Disturbances has been normal this year, the intensity of the weather systems was confined to weak only.
