Delhi Unlikely To Breach Previous Record, December Lowest To Remain At 5 Degree

Base observatory of Delhi at Safdarjung has recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 5degree on 26th Dec, so far.  Minimum temperature dropped below normal on 23rd Dec and thereafter hovered around 5 degree for the next 5days. Courtesy, western disturbance over the northern mountains, the night temperature has risen to become normal in the last 48hr and touched 7degree, today morning.  The average temperature for the last 1 week is 5.7degree, against the pentad normal of 7degree, at this time of the year. 

Delhi minimum temperature invariably plunges to about 5degree or lower during the last week of December.  Low single digit temperature of under 5degree have been recorded on 7 occasions, since 2011. The lowest temperature of 2.4degree has been recorded twice on 30th Dec2013 and  28th Dec 2019, since 2011.

 Western disturbance is expected to clear the hilly states by late night on 30th Dec. Delhi is likely to have partly cloudy sky with thin layer of scattered clouds on 29th and 30th Dec. Tomorrow, the day will have sunshine during  noon hours and the clouds will reappear on new year eve, little later in the evening. Weather is unlikely to play a spoilsport for new year celebrations. Chill and fog will greet the revellers throughout the night long session.
