Delhi touch 34 degrees, mid-week showers likely

Delhi NCR rains

Base observatory of Delhi recorded the day maximum of 34°C yesterday, a temperature 5°C above the normal. The minimum temperature of Delhi this morning was also 5°C more than the average at 18.9°C. This is one of the earliest 34°C for Delhi after a similar feat on 04 Mar 2016 when the official repository at Safdarjung had measured 34.1°C. Another weather station of Delhi at Ayanagar registered 34.4°C. Earlier Delhi had mercury reaching 33.9°C on 04th March 2021. Also, 33°C mark was breached for Delhi twice in February by accounting 33.2°C and 33°C on 25th and 26th February 2021.

The month of March for Delhi usually starts with a maximum of 27°C and leaps to 34°C at the fag end. However, the day temperature for Delhi has touched 39.2°C on 22nd Mar 2010 and 31st Mar 2019 in recent years. The highest ever record for Delhi of 40.6°C was achieved on 31st March 1945. March 2020 was rather comfortable for Delhi with the highest reaching 33.3°C on 25th Mar.

Light to moderate rain was recorded on the outskirts of Delhi NCR during the past 24 hours. Most parts of Haryana including Ambala and Karnal registered rainfall. Some clouds did appear over a few parts of Delhi but no rainfall was measured. Western disturbance responsible for the weather activity is on the way out but another one is approaching the northern parts by tomorrow. Though Delhi will continue to be in the peripheral region, still chances of having one or two spells of rain and thunderstorm can not be ruled out. Delhi NCR pockets will have sharp and short duration showers between 10th and 12th March with more probability on 12th March. The cloudy sky may prevail over Delhi NCR even the next day on 13th also. Reversal of winds will lead to a drop in day temperature for Delhi NCR by 2-3°C.
