After much hype, dust storm finally arrived over Delhi and NCR at around 11:20 PM on May 7. Intensity of thunderstorm was moderate wherein the winds reached 50-60 kmph at some parts while isolated pockets saw the winds gusting up to 70 kmph as well.
In fact, traces of rainfall were recorded in the Safdarjung as well as Ridge observatories of Delhi-NCR. Other observatories did not record any rains as such.
This weather activity was in view of the cyclonic circulation which was prevailing over Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana region.

Isolated light rainfall activity was also witnessed over parts of Delhi and the NCR region last night. Now, the cyclonic circulation is persisting over Haryana and adjoining areas. The system has now weakened. The conditions are still favourable for light dust storm or thunderstorm activities as the humidity is available in the atmosphere.
With rise in temperatures along with available humidity, we expect thundercloud build up during late afternoon hours which may lead to dust storm or thunderstorm activities in isolated pockets of Delhi-NCR region.
These weather activities will be normal Pre-Monsoon activities and there is no need to panic. Now, the wind speed will also reduce to quite an extent at around 40-50 kmph. Tomorrow, we expect that the weather will start clear up. However, sky may remain partly cloudy during that time. Temperatures are also expected to begin rising.
