The last month passed by on an almost dry note for Delhi and NCR and since then, the national capital has been waiting for some pre-Monsoon activities. However, came May and Delhi NCR saw some rain and thundershowers along with thunderstorm and light spells.
Adding the rains recorded by Delhi on two back to back occasions, that is on May 3 and 4, Delhi has recorded 19 mm of rains so far against its monthly normal of 31.5 mm.
These rains also slipped the maximum temperature of the city from 40’s to get arrested in higher 30’s. Following the initial spell, some short-duration light spells even occurred at isolated places over Delhi and NCR on May 6 as well.

It is due to this spell the day temperatures on Sunday ended up settling at a comfortable 36.2ºC, which was a good 3 degrees Celsius below the normal of the city. Minimums also settled near normal.
However, due to clear skies and the prevalence of dry northwesterly winds, the temperatures started showing a rise again today and possibly are expected to settle somewhere around 39-40 degrees Celsius by the end of the day.
However, as per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir. It has induced a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana and Punjab. Hence, situations are conducive for another spell of pre-Monsoon activities to occur over the northwestern plains of the country, including Delhi and the adjoining Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.

Thus, Delhiites can witness another spell of rain and thundershowers along with dust storm and the light spell of rains today. These activities are expected to occur mostly during the late night or early morning hours are likely to continue for the next 24 hours.
The intensity of these rounds of pre-Monsoon activities would be lesser today, however, the intensity and spread may increase tomorrow, covering larger areas.
Skymet Weather rules out the possibility of extremely strong winds over the city. The winds are expected to blow at a speed of around 60 km/hr, gusting up to 75 km/hr, though caution is still advisable. The panic situation that has been created around is not required as the weather activity will not be as intense.
This spell of pre-Monsoon showers would further help in dipping the mercury levels by a good four to five degrees and the maximum may get arrested in mid-30’s.
Further, clearance in the weather conditions is expected by May 9 onwards.
