Monsoon onset over Delhi this year was slightly delayed. The normal onset date is around June 27 whereas the monsoon reached Delhi on June 30 with a delay of three days. Between June 1 and August 17, Delhi received 20% less rainfall than normal.
Typical monsoon rains are still absent from Delhi and NCR region. Although few good spells were witnessed by the national capital but these spells were separated by frequent dry spells.
We do not expect any significant weather activity over Delhi during the next 48 hours. There may be cloudy skies with light scattered rains on August 20. Rains may increase between August 21st and 22nd but we do not expect fairly widespread downpour over the national capital.
These rain activities can be due to the northward shifting of axis of monsoon trough along with the moderate humid winds from Bay of Bengal.
A low pressure area has also developed over North Bay of Bengal which will travel in West Northwest direction its impact will be seen over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab as these states will fall in the outer periphery of this weather system. Another spell of rain is expected over Delhi around August 25 or 26.
