Delhi and the entire National Capital Region have been reeling under dry weather conditions for quite some time now. But the wait is finally over as Delhi has already witnessed its first showers for the month of June.
Some parts of Delhi witnessed light rainfall on the morning of June 9. There are reports that Palam received some light rainfall activity this morning around 06:00 am. This rainfall activity likely to intensify as the weekend approaches.
The intensity of these rains will be light until Friday but by Saturday and Sunday these showers are likely to grow stronger. Light to moderate rain and thundershower activity along with dust storm can be expected over the weekend.
This weather activity is likely to make some room for the temperatures to drop. Delhi is currently searing due to 40°C+ temperatures but this weather activity is likely to bring it down. So Delhi might finally be free from the dry and hot weather conditions, even though this weather activity will be short-lived.
The reason for this weather activity is the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana and a trough from this system extending up to West Bengal, hovering over Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The similar weather activity was witnessed by Delhi by the end of May. There were squally winds layered with some thunderstorms and rains that made temperatures drop by 8°C.
