The first measurable wet spell for the national capital is arriving soon. Rain and thundershowers may get over the curse of extended dry weather this winter season. Cloudy sky, moderate winds, and strokes of lightning accompanied with thunder are quite likely. Dense fog and moderate breeze may raise the chill factor, leading to cold day conditions. Finally, wait for the typical winter showers of this season seems to be getting over, shortly.
January and February are the main months for the winter rains. Somehow, the month of January has evaded completely the flavor of winter showers. Conditions are building up for a decent spell of rain and thundershower, over the next two days. The first shower for the city is likely to arrive tomorrow evening. Intermittent activity will go on in the night and lash the city and suburbs till late on 01st Feb.
A series of western disturbances is likely to move across the northern mountains, over the next few days. The first of these systems has arrived over the high grounds. An induced cyclonic circulation is likely to come up over Punjab and the neighbourhood, triggering simultaneous weather activity over the plains of North India. The national capital lies on the fringes of the main system but is still close enough to set off typical seasonal rains. The duo of western disturbance and induced circulation is ideally positioned for spread-out weather activity over the region. An east-west trough from the system will extend along the Indo-Gangetic plains and run in close proximity to Delhi.
Rain and thundershowers are likely to commence a little late tomorrow and weather activity to continue for the next 24 hours, with pauses in between. The deep trough in the westerly flow could trigger some hailstorm activity over some parts, including Delhi/NCR. Persistent clouds, intermittent rain and moderate breeze will lead to a drop in day temperatures. Marginal rise is expected in the minimum temperatures. An outside chance to have cold day conditions for the capital city. With a short break on 02nd Feb, the city and surroundings may come up with yet another light spell of rain between 03rd and 04th Feb.
