Delhi To Get Moderate-Heavy Showers Today Evening, Light/Moderate Rain Likely Through The Week

Monsoon showers have been giving amiss to the national capital for the last couple of days. After having the deluge on 28th June, the day of monsoon arrival, showers have been absolutely scanty. Last two days have remained completely dry, despite some favourable conditions. However, the chances of having decent showers today evening and night are better than the previous days.

An east-west trough has been marked extending from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi to Gangetic West Bengal, across Indo-Gangetic plains. Feeble cyclonic circulation is embedded in the trough around Delhi/Haryana region, in the lower levels. Though, the trough will oscillate marginally north and south but broadly will meander over this region, till this weekend.

Rain and thunder showers are likely over Delhi and suburbs for the next 5-6 days. Intensity and spread of the activity is likely to be more today. Few heavy showers are likely in the evening and early night hours, accompanied with strong winds. Showers could be heavy enough to have trouble for the commuters due to water logging in the low lying areas and underpasses. The weather activity will slow down in the late night.

Day temperatures are likely to dip to low 30’s and minimum temperatures to hang around mid 20’s, during the week. July and August are the rainiest months, the latter slightly more than July.  July has an average of about 210mm rainfall for the record observatory of Safdarjung. A decent share of this total is likely to be observed during the current week. Weather conditions will remain pleasant with persistent cloud cover. The high humidity may remain a concern to raise the discomfort, during absence of rains.
