Delhi NCR is likely to experience dry weather conditions for the week commencing 07th September. In the absence of seasonal rains, the temperatures will rise to reach the high 30’s during the second half of the week. Patchy rains are expected on Sunday, 06th September which might as well spill over to morning hours on Monday, 07th September. But thereafter, it appears like rains are deserting the capital city for good about one week. There are no indications of reversal of this pattern even beyond one week.

Delhi had a large deficit of more than 30% at halfway mark till July end. Courtesy few good showers in August, this got reduced to 9% by month-end. Absence of any measurable rains in September so far, this figure also has gone to 12%. The normal rainfall for the base observatory Safdarjung for September is the only 130 mm. This low amount is to be read with caution as the monsoon starts withdrawing anytime during the second half of the month, the normal date though is taken as the third week. Once the process of withdrawal commences with West Rajasthan, the line of retreat is expected to reach Delhi in the next two weeks.

The weather conditions during the second half of August remained in the comfort range with day temperature mostly remaining below the average. However, September may not be as kind and the day temperatures may soon reach 37°C or beyond in some pockets. Afternoon conditions will turn hot, humid, and cloudless thereby raising the discomfort. The absence of any active western disturbance coupled with the monsoon trough distancing itself from the capital city, September rains may become far and few.
