February 25, 2016 12:27 PM |

Delhi temperatures continue to soar, record highest maximum of the seasonDelhi temperatures have soared during the past few days. While mornings have become cool and temperatures continue to settle close to 10 degrees, afternoons have become hot and uncomfortable.

Each day, the day temperatures in the national capital have been setting a new record.

While winter was warm and short lived as compared to other years, summerlike conditions also did not take too long to set in over Delhi and other parts of the country.

Both the observatories recorded the highest maximum of the season on February 24. While, Palam observatory recorded a whopping 32.2°C, Safdarjung observatory observed 30.3°C as its maximum.

Not only this, different parts of the Delhi-NCR region also recorded high maximums. For instance Gurgaon recorded its maximum as 33.1°C, Noida 30.1°C, Jafarpur 30.2°C, and Ayanagar 31.2°C.

Usually, in the month of February, the first ten days observe maximums between 20 and 22 degrees, and by the end of the month the temperature range reaches to 26-27 degrees. However, maximums going beyond the 30-degree mark is a rare phenomenon.

These conditions can be attributed to the change in winds over the region from cold and dry northwesterly to warm and humid southwesterly. Due to this shift, the night temperatures have also witnessed a marginal rise.

During the next 24 hours, similar conditions will prevail over Delhi-NCR. In fact, the temperatures could set new records today. The rest of the month is likely follow the same pattern with maximums being close to 30 degrees. No relief is likely. Also, temperatures in March could set even newer records.
