This season, winters in Delhi didn’t start off as it was expected, but since the start of January 2017, winters tightened its grip with extreme fall in temperatures. Delhi witnessed severe cold weather conditions from January 10 to January 22. Around that time, the temperatures in National Capital remained between 3-7°C.
Since then, back to back Western Disturbances led to change in wind direction. Icy cold northerly winds occurring due to western disturbance were keeping the temperatures low, however, they got interrupted by the southwesterly-southeasterly humid winds from time to time. This flurry of warm winds continued over Delhi & NCR and so temperatures remained above normal.
Both minimum and maximum temperatures saw a significant rise. But there is another change in weather pattern in sight. A feeble Western Disturbance has approached the Western Himalayas which will move away by tomorrow. We expect a drop in maximum and minimum temperatures by 2-3°C over Delhi and NCR in next 48 hours.
On Tuesday morning, Delhi-NCR recorded morning temperature of 9.8°C, which was above normal by one degree.
But this drop in temperatures will not be as severe as the one in mid-January. So it is safe to say that now severe winter condition is not likely to make a comeback, but mild winter conditions will continue throughout the second week of February.
The temperatures will rise occasionally due to the approaching Western Disturbance and temperatures will fall as the western disturbance moves away subsequently. The normal temperature at present is 8°C and we do not expect the temperatures to fall below normal.
The dense to very dense fog witnessed in Delhi-NCR today morning will thin down due to dry and cold northwesterly winds.
