Delhi's temperature plunged below normal after a gap of nearly two weeks. The last subpar temperature of 6°C was recorded on 15th Jan 2025 which was below normal by 1.4°C. Thereafter, the minimum temperatures remained above the average, climbing even to double digits on a few days in the third week. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a low of 5.6°C today, about 3°C below normal and a drop of 1.6°C since yesterday. Pusa was the lowest in the region with a minimum of 5.2°C.

The month of January has remained warmer than normal this season. The average minimum temperature has remained about 2°C above the normal. There is not even a single day of cold wave in the national capital, very unusual to happen. The temperature is unlikely to sink further and will possibly witness an incremental rise over the next one week. There is likely a twist in the weather conditions, more so, early next week.

A trail of western disturbances in quick succession will move across the mountains between 29th Jan and 05th Feb 2025. Hills and plains, both, will bear the risk of changing weather conditions. Delhi will remain at the farther end of the first system between 29th and 30th Jan. Even, clouds are also not expected. The second system between 31st Jan and 01st Feb will have its peripherals in close proximity of Delhi. The national capital and neighbourhood stand an outside chance of stray showers on these two days.

The main system will arrive on 03rd Feb, along with its support cyclonic circulation over the plains. This will be an active system and have the potential to impact plains and hills simultaneously. Rain and snowfall are expected to be fairly widespread across the region and so will be for the national capital.

In tandem movement of the western disturbances will lead to a gradual rise in the minimum temperatures over the next one week. It is likely to reach double digits, as well, in between. Cloudy sky is likely to appear from 03rd Feb afternoon and may become heavily overcast on 04th Feb. Decent moderate winter showers are expected on this day. The remnant effect of the system will possibly last till 05th Feb 2025. Broad clearance of weather conditions is expected on 06th Feb and later days.
