On Tuesday morning, Delhiites woke up to intense layer of smog with pollution levels surpassing the safe limit and leading to poor visibility across the region.

This smog is mainly attributed to the mass burning of crop stubble in the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana. In addition to this, light northwesterly winds are blowing over the national capital that is bringing these pollutants towards Delhi as these states are located northwest of the national capital.

What is more distressing is the fact that the prevailing weather situation is not anticipated to recover for at least the next coming days. This dense layer of smog will persist due to the light and calm winds. Besides this, high levels of humidity will further make Delhi and its adjoining regions of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad vulnerable to smog. Until and unless, the speed of the winds would not increase, the smog will not disperse.
